Jazz is back: founding notes and musical notes

It’s May, and in addition to soaking up the spring green of Southcentral, we’re also listening to the rustle and beat of Spenard Jazz Fest 2018, now in its 11th year.

Later Alaska hometown, we will welcome the founder and musician Yngvil Vatn Guttu and two artists of the festival. Dan MacElrath of the Dan Mac Trio and John “Pypes” Teamer will make fun of their “Wonder of Wonders” festival event (as in Stevie Wonder). Yngvil will bring at least one instrument to play, yes! Between their tracks, we’ll talk about the sustainability of the festival, lessons learned, the vitality of volunteers, panels of local musicians, and what’s new this year, including the symbiosis with the Alaska Independent Musician Initiative (AKIMI).

Thanks for listening!
