Vegan with a sweet tooth, rejoice: we now have a fully vegan neighborhood cheese and dessert bar.
Planthropie opened at 135 Pierce St. on Saturday to bring its decadent offerings to those with specific dietary restrictions. Vegans and those with allergies to gluten and soy can now find delicious treats to suit their needs.
The owner of the cafe, Rua Francis Oshana, started the project after finding out that her son was allergic to dairy products.
“That’s when I started experimenting with creating healthy alternatives – cheeses and desserts that I wanted us to eat and couldn’t find in the market,” he said. she declared. Eater.
The concept of Planthropie is then inspired by the recipes that she concocts for him at home. Oshana has a background in medicine and corporate marketing, and she has worked as a nutrition consultant, according to Eater.
Menu items for the new cafe include white truffle cheese, nut cheese, cheesecake and high chocolate cake latte.
Before the Brick and Mortar opened, Oshana hosted several pop-ups – including a five-course chef’s table dessert menu that sold out.
The new location will offer counter service and accommodate around 20 people. Planthropie will be offering dessert and cheese platters throughout the week, with more complex offerings like cheese menu and dessert tours on weekends.
